Frenchay Primary School Enlargement
Due to the new Redrow housing development in Frenchay there is a need for additional school places. As a result the school, along with the local authority, have worked together to enlarge the existing school. The school has now moved to it's new home on the former hospital carpark site within the Redrow housing development. The new school is a new two storey passivhaus building which can accommodate up to 420 pupils as a 2 form entry school. Currently it is a single form entry intake as of September 2022.
This is an exciting time for Frenchay Primary as there will be many further opportunities available to us now we have additional space available.
The school had a successful OFSTED Inspection in March 2019. As a school we greatly value each and every individual, both pupils, parents and staff and this is demonstrated through our vision and values. The school, on it's previous site, was small, with a capacity of 140 pupils and grew to a single form entry school in September 2022. The leadership, staff and governors of the school remained the same when the school moved.
The school has been designed with curves which are gentler than sharp, straight edges, representing our ethos as a Church school. The incorporation of eco efficient features such as triple glazing and a timber frame as well as solar panels and EV charging points has been included. The building is light and airy, with large doors leading to the outside from each classroom downstairs to allow ease of learning both inside and outside. Each year group from EYFS to year 3 has their own garden area to work and explore in. Years 4 to 6 look out over the adjacent conservation area. There is a striking atrium, where the library space is placed and this allows light to stream through the corridors. From here you can walk out onto the spiritual/ reading garden where our mosaic has been laid, which was made by the children in the previous school in preparation for the move.
Outside space offers trees which are calming and allow for forest skills learning, space to run and play, a football pitch, netball and basketball courts.
We are very excited about our new school and look forward to continuing our close links with St Johns Church and the surrounding community.
